IPL Spot-Fixing: Raj Kundra, Shilpa Shetty slam media over arrest news

IPL Spot Fixing 2013

Zee Media Bureau

New Delhi: Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra whose passport has been seized by Delhi police after 12 hours’ of interrogation yesterday slammed media for making concocted news about him and his possible arrest in connection with betting in IPL.

He has expressed surprise over the news of his possible arrest in connection with betting. He wrote on Twitter: “Good morning woke up to news raj kundra faces the heat. Yes it’s very hot in Mumbai. Media has misconstrued everything using unreliable sources. Try speaking to the main guys at crime branch. Why does media hype things and make such stupid claims to sell news. (Sic)”

About his possible arrest warrant he also wrote: “Is there an arrest warrant? I am back home in Mumbai. Kindly let Delhi crime branch do their work. Media stop using derogatory statement.(sic)”

Shilpa Shetty, the Bollywood actress wife of Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra also came down heavily on media for making ‘derogatory statement’ about her husband.

Shetty today wrote on the micro-blogging site Twitter: “Really upset with the media fr casting aspersions without any proof, making derogatory statements..Uncalled for and not to be tolerated(sic).”

She also tweeted: “Just to reiterate, will do it all it takes to reach to the bottom of this “spot-fixing case” and be of complete help till that happens!(sic).”

The reactions came after media reports claim that Delhi police have seized Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra`s passport and asked him not to leave the country till the spot-fixing probe is over.

It was also reported that Kundra might be arrested as Delhi police have not ruled out the possibility of his arrest.

Earlier, it was learnt that Rajasthan Royals owner Raj Kundra and his business partner-friend Umesh Goenka might be questioned again on Thursday in connection with the IPL spot-fixing scandal and allegations that Kundra was into betting. Both were quizzed by a special cell of Delhi police yesterday for almost 12 hours.

The questioning also came following the claims made by a cricketer Sidharth Tiwari and to know about the ownership pattern of the team.

A senior Delhi Police official refused to clear the air on Kundra, who said he owns 11.7 per cent stake in Rajasthan Royals, whether he is a "suspect or complainant", stating he was an "important person" needed for questioning.

Police sources claimed that Kundra was into betting but not into fixing. Their questioning was basically into betting, police sources said.

Whoever wins after losing is called baazigar, SRK on KKR winning IPL 2013

They may be languishing at the seventh spot in the points table but holders Kolkata Knight Riders are still optimistic of making the title clash of the Indian Premier League. Team co-owner Shah Rukh Khan said with win against Rajasthan Royals last night his side was back on track.
"It's better late than never. We will give our best shot. I've a strange sense of confidence that we would do it. With five more matches to go, we would manage it and play the final here," Shah Rukh said.
Recollecting a dialogue from his 1993 blockbuster Baazigar, Shah Rukh said: "Kabhi kabhi kuch jeetne ke liye kuch harna bhi padta hai aur haarkar jeetne wale ko baazigar kehte hain (Sometimes to win, something has to be lost and who wins after losing is called a gambler)."
Asked whether the struggling team need any incentive to perform better, the Bollywood star said the team was a close-knit family eager to perform.
"It will be a little unfair to say that. For last six years, we have kept the core of the team together. We have lived, breathed, seen failures and finally celebrated our
success together," he said during Nike's meet and greet event.
Shah Rukh said it was nice to see his side getting back to winning ways.
"We had a bit of a bad run, to say the least - So it's nice to be back to winning ways. I couldn't come down for all the matches, so it's nice to see your team win when you come back."
He also hailed Yusuf Pathan's coming to form as the Baroda all-rounder hit unbeaten 49 in team's win.
"Yusuf is a marvellous player... a marvellous person. All of us go through patches where things don't go too well. Let's hope from now on things will go right. I feel extremely responsible that I don't let the fans down. So we will try harder. As you know, I can't do much, but the team is doing its best, we are playing well."
In a lighter vein, Shah Rukh said his and his daughter's presence also did a bit in his side's win last night.
"My daughter and me, we are a lucky combination. When nothing else works, you have to try these things. But it was nice and heartening to see the team coming together and win."

Shahid Afridi blames Misbah-ul-Haq for Champions Trophy axe

It's the captain's decision to drop me, says Shahid Afridi. (Reuters)

Shahid Afridi has blamed Pakistan's one-day cricket captain Misbah-ul-Haq for his exclusion from the Champions Trophy squad, and has vowed to return to the national team.
"It's the captain's decision to drop me,'' Afridi told the Urdu language Daily Jang on Wednesday. "It's no big deal for me if a captain doesn't want a certain player in the team.''
In announcing the squad earlier this week, selectors said Afridi, who has scored 7,201 and taken 348 wickets in ODIs, was left out due to recent poor form in one-day internationals.
He has scored only 161 runs at an average of 17.88 and taken just four wickets at an astonishing cost of 113.75 runs each in the last 12 ODIs. But Afridi refused to go into his recent statistics.
"I am much better than lot of other (Pakistan) players and I know I could play for Pakistan for few more years.''
Afridi now plans to prepare for a Twenty20 tournament in England in July where he will represent English county Hampshire.
"I have received lots of text messages from my fans and I am thankful to all of them,'' he said.
"The flamboyant all-rounder refused to accept that his exclusion from the Champions Trophy squad spelt the end of his career.
"I know I have to work very hard to return to Pakistan team,'' he said.
"I want to make it clear I don't want to be burden on the team. I want to represent Pakistan on performance and fitness.
"The day I believed I am burden on the team I will quit myself.''
